August Sender is a Rural Advocate and Educator for the Sexual Assault Support Services of Midcoast Maine, based in Belfast, Maine. They have worked for SASSMM since January 2017, and provide trainings to a variety of educators, providers, parents, and community groups regarding responding to and preventing sexual violence. They also work individually with clients who are affected by sexual violence. Previous to SASSMM, they worked for Maine Family Planning as a medical assistant and counselor, and volunteered at a domestic violence hotline for four years. They have been an herbalist for 10 years and is strongly committed to patient-centered care, an empowerment model of healing, and the importance of alternative medical providers in addressing trauma.
