Connie Perkins (she/her) has been exploring and studying trauma and its affects on the childbearing year since 2008. After completing her bachelors degree at Midwives College of Utah she began to scrutinize her own practice and searched for a better way to serve her clients, a large percentage of whom disclosed past trauma. She was first introduced to protocols for trauma sensitive care while at a yoga studio, and quickly became interested in the possibility of specific trauma informed and trauma sensitive care across a multidisciplinary spectrum. Her current project is developing an education program to combine the Midwives Model of Care with trauma sensitive practices.
Connie grew up on the Menominee reservation in northern Wisconsin and currently resides in central Michigan. She lives on a small intentional community with a flock of assorted children, goats, and chickens. She currently serves on the Michigan Board of Licensed Midwifery and as vice president of the Michigan Midwives Association.
