Midwives of Color

Wow! We were thrilled to have all 30 of our complimentary registrations for MOC accepted so soon!

MANA and the California Association of Midwives Foundation believe that the most enriching and educational conferences include people from diverse backgrounds, and for midwifery to thrive we need to hear the perspectives of midwives from all communities. Recognizing the historical barriers to inclusion of midwives of color, and their unique role in helping US midwifery to grow, the MANA Board of Directors and the California Association of Midwives Foundation were pleased to offer 30 complimentary registrations to midwives and students of color, and reduced-rate registrations for any midwives or student midwives of color beyond the complimentary 30.

Because of the overwhelming response MANA/CAM is continuing to explore ways to fund additional complimentary registrations.

Additionally at MANACAM17:

If you are a midwife of color who would appreciate the discounted rate instead of the complimentary rate (for personal preference or because the complimentary spots have been filled), please use this code: zynhydj6g.

If you are a student midwife of color who would appreciate the discounted rate instead of the complimentary rate (for personal preference or because the complimentary spots have been filled), please use this code: 62pajzmmz and follow the instructions for student registrations above.

Speakers (excluding preconference workshop presenters) are offered complimentary registration on the day they are presenting, and charged a prorated single day rate for any additional days (at the Member or Non-Member rate, as appropriate.) Speakers are asked to please register for ALL days on site to ensure for an accurate headcount, even if it is only the single day they are presenting. Please refer to your speakers contract for information and instructions. Speakers are asked to pay for their CEU packets (if non-member) and any pre-conference workshops they attend.

Lunch is included Friday, Saturday and Sunday with full registration fee. There will be space to identify any dietary needs and restrictions, and to purchase additional meals for guests on the registration form.

Student Rate

A discounted conference rate is offered to students. To qualify you must be actively involved in an apprenticeship with a practicing midwife or be attending midwifery school. A letter from your preceptor or school stating this relationship must be included with your registration.

Group childcare will be provided during conference hours. Guardians may have their children supervised for a session or maybe two (not all day, please). The service is free, with donations appreciated. Parents will be asked to sign a liability waiver in order to participate, and to be immediately responsive if called back by the care provider. If you are considering bringing your child to the event and utilizing childcare services, please let us know before October 1 so that we can ensure coverage. Email events here.

Poster presentation proposals for The Harris-Braun Outstanding Poster Award for Research are closed. Applicants that submit before the revised deadline of August 15 will be notified if they are accepted by August 30.

Questions about the poster process may be submitted by email here. More information on creating a poster can be found at the MANA blog here.

Scholarships and Work Study

Scholarship applications are now closed.

The MANA Board of Directors, with support from the Foundation for the Advancement of Midwifery (FAM), has awarded registration scholarships to attend the conference. Scholarship applications were due August 15. Preference was given to those who have not received a scholarship to attend MANA in the past. Applicants will be notified by August 31.

Work Study

In addition to the registration scholarship program, MANA is also offering a limited number of work study opportunities for people who need volunteer hours to meet a school requirement, or simply would benefit from a rebate on their conference registration fees. You will be asked to register and pay fully in advance of the event, but will receive a rebate check after the conference for $50 for 4 hours of volunteering. Duties typically include collecting meal tickets during meals, selling raffle tickets, or supporting the MANA sales or registration tables or staff, but we do ask for flexibility. Note: your hours may not be all on one day, but divided among the days. If you are interested in this opportunity, please email Nicole with your name, contact info including cell phone. Be sure to mention if you are a student or if you have mobility considerations. If you are also applying for a full scholarship, please also note that in your email, and specify if you would still like to participate in work study (without monetary compensation) even if awarded a registration scholarship.
