After finishing her MSN and midwifery training at Case Western Reserve University in 1996, Janet practiced full scope nurse-midwifery care in Vermont and Maine. She received a post-masters certificate as an Adult/Gerontology Nurse Practitioner from UMass Boston in 2012. After 17 years of sleep deprivation as a midwife, she hung up her catcher’s mitt in 2013, joining the Central Maine Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine practice as a Nurse Practitioner. Amazed at how much she had not learned about sleep issues during her career, she began speaking and publishing on topics around sleep in women's health to midwives. She was a member of the ACNM Sleep and Safety Task Force, and helped create their 2017 position statement on Fatigue, Sleep Deprivation and Safety. She received her DNP from UMass Boston in 2018, and is now practicing in primary care at Winthrop Family Medicine here in Maine, where she happily blends women's health, sleep disorders and primary care services in her practice.
