Biography

Wicanhpi Iyotan Win Autumn Cavender-Wilson, CPM, IBC is a Wahpetunwan Dakota CPM and IBC from Pezihutazizi K’api (BIA name: Upper Sioux Community). Living and practicing near her home community in what is currently known as southwestern Minnesota, she has brought her past experience as an anti-racism educator and decolonization activist to birth justice work. As an Indigenous midwife on colonially occupied land, Autumn believes that as politics form a foundational tenant upon which human society rests, there is nothing that gets to be apolitical. Not even birth.
