Diving deep into the physiology of the developing fetal nervous system, this course takes aim at sustaining midwifery by offering practical ways to implement current evidence into everyday practice. A thorough review of the foundation of fetal heart rates is followed by a review of the current literature and safety of intermittent auscultation. The delicate balance of the developing nervous system within the developing baby creates the fetal heart rate that sustains new life and becomes the familiar reassurance we hear in our everyday work. While reviewing the fundamentals of fetal heart rate physiology, this class also includes a review of the latest evidence and methodology for intermittent auscultation during labor. It will also include fetal well-being tests specifically for out-of-hospital midwives, and steps for documenting in out-of-hospital settings.
