Young at Heart - Intrapartum Fetal Assessment*

The delicate balance of the developing nervous system within the developing baby creates the fetal heart rate we hear in our everyday work. Understanding the physiology behind the baseline heart rate as well as accelerations and decelerations, aids in both our understanding and decision making based off the fetal heart rate, especially during labor! While reviewing the fundamentals of fetal heart rate physiology, this class also includes a review of the latest evidence and methodology for intermittent auscultation during labor, fetal well-being tests specifically for out-of-hospital midwives, and very practical steps for documenting in out-of-hospital settings.
